The Real Thing For Intelligent Office Lighting

Today we are going to have a comprehensive understanding on intelligent office lighting from these aspects: basic standards, common light fixtures and common functions under intelligent control!

When it comes to Lifud important intelligent lighting scenes, presumably indoor office lighting would firstly come into your mind. Today we are going to have a comprehensive understanding on intelligent office lighting from these aspects: basic standards, common light fixtures and common functions under intelligent control.

1. Basic standards of office lighting

To enable the intelligent control, the first thing on your to-do list is render your products meet with basic standards. Please refer to the standard values of office lighting specified in Standard for Lighting Design of Building GB 50034-2013.

For some places that are not mentioned above such as corridor, elevator/lift, toilet, switch room and so on, please refer to the standard values of public lighting and industrial lighting specified in Standard for Lighting Design of Building GB50034-2013 5.5.1.

2. Common light fixtures and application trend of office lighting

The office lighting is mainly to provide a high-quality lighting environment for office staff, and the unique or artistic design on the appearance of light fixtures is not the main demand. Generally speaking, panel light, linear light, down light and spot light are likely to be used as the main light and LED strip, etc. as the decorative (auxiliary) light. With an aim to “fight” against the epidemic, some lights featuring disinfection and sterilization are gradually applied in office lighting, etc., which is viewed as a new trend in LED industry.

3. Common functions under intelligent control of office lighting

In terms of different application scenes, the common functions under intelligent control mainly consist of device management, individual light control, group control, scene setting, local/remote control, timing (clock control), sensing control, energy consumption statistics, fault alarm (information feedback) and non-lighting system linkage. And the hardest thing for the lighting design is how to combine these functions with lighting according to different scenes.

Now let’s have a detailed understanding on some common functions under intelligent control of office lighting and relevant application thoughts.

a. Scene setting

It is one of the most widely-used basic intelligent control in office lighting. For example, set the scene the work mode, noon break mode and off-work mode in the main office area; set the scene the visitor receiving mode, slide showing mode, discussing mode, teaching mode, etc. in the meeting room.

b. Timing control

Based on the scene setting, set the scene the on-time automatic operation mode in some office areas with fixed lighting scenes at fixed times according to their commutes at working days, holidays, etc.

c. Sensing control

Based on the scene setting and timing control, use PIR sensor, motion sensor, brightness sensor, etc. at some specific times (e.g. off-work time) and in some special areas (e.g. corridor and place beside the window) to enable functions of constant illuminance, brightness adjustment, auto turn-on (when someone is approaching), and auto turn-off (after people left).

d. Voice control

As for independent offices, use voice control to create unique scenes for the convenience of scene switch among different modes such as visitor receiving mode, working mode, discussing mode and so on, which can ensure the high-quality working state of employees.

e. Non-lighting system linkage

It means to combine the curtain, fresh air, air conditioner and projector with other modes when setting scenes. For example, link the work mode in the office area with air conditioner to enable the warmness in winter and coolness in summer; link the slide showing mode in the meeting room with curtain (off) and projector (on); link the visitor receiving mode in the independent office with fresh air to keep the air circulated...

f. Rhythm control

Since the ancient times, we human-beings have been genetically accustomed to sunrise and sunset. The high color temperature during the daytime allows us to work more efficiently. While the warm light of sunset and primitive bonfire “remind” people of relaxation. Rhythm control means to stimulate people’s visual perception by simulating the changes of sunlight in the light design so as to adjust the biological rhythm of human body. For example, in the work mode, people are in the “sunlight” created from the artificial light, which can improve work efficiency to some extent; in the rest mode, use warm light to make people placidly “bathe” at dusk, which can improve the quality of rest.

4. Application analysis on intelligent control in office lighting

How to use the above functions to create lighting scenes in different areas? Take the main office area for example, functions including scene control, timing control, PIR sensing, illuminance sensing, system linkage, etc. are suitable for intelligent office lighting.

6:30-8:10 maintenance mode (use motion sensing function to maintain 10% brightness in all scenes, providing basic lighting for cleaning staff. Meanwhile, it is used to sense the movement of human body: 60% brightness when someone is approaching & 10% brightness after people left)

8:10-12:00; 13:00-18:00 work mode (use the light sensing control and rhythm control to collect outdoor natural brightness, keeping the constant illuminance in the office area; use the rhythm control to adjust the correlated color temperature, improving staff’s vitality in thinking and providing high-quality lighting for all staff working in the office; link the lighting with air conditioning system, making people enjoy coolness in summer and warmness in winter).

12:00-13:25 rest mode [Link the curtain system with lighting (when the light is turned off, the curtain automatically closes) to reduce the brightness to the minimum, providing staff with comfortable rest environment]

13:25-13:30 wake mode [Link the lighting and curtain system with voice speaker (the light slowly turns on; the curtain gradually opens and soothing music slowly plays) to make everyone gradually adjust himself/herself from the rest state to the work state].

18:00-23:00 over-work mode (The PIR sensor judges whether there are any staff in the working area and maintains the work mode if they are detected; if not, the PIR sensor maintains the rest mode).

23:00-7:30 off-work mode [Link the lighting with air conditioning system (all the lights and air conditioners automatically turn off) ].

The above contents are merely part of thoughts. Generally speaking, all the designs of office lighting aim to improve the concentration + happiness of staff and the convenience of office. On the other, it aims to reduce the energy consumption for a eco-friendly planet. With an aim to achieve these goals, we are supposed to think about which one(s) is(are) mostly functional instead of using all intelligent but inapplicable functions. This is what we called “served by intelligence”.
